History of the Dallas Chihuahua Club

The Dallas Chihuahua Club had its beginnings in Dallas, Texas on March 5, 1949 with 53 members. The purpose of the club was, and still is, to promote the breeding of Chihuahuas and to adopt the standard of the Chihuahua Club of America as the only recognized and unvarying standard by which Chihuahuas are to be judged. This is to be done by giving prizes and supporting shows that adhere to these standards.

To date there are 28 members, most of whom live in Texas, but we also have members from other states and countries. Current lifetime members are Ann Bynum, Verda Dingman, Mary Sue Gains, Peggy and Tad Hackelton. Other honorary and/or charter members of the club were Mrs. Mike Attas, Dessa and Otto Kraft, and Theron and Irene Smith.

The club held its first "B" Match on May 29, 1949. The club held its first specialty show on Nov. 5, 1950 and annual specialty shows until 1976. Since then, there have been 2 shows a year. The club has hosted two national shows, one in 1979 when DCC was the first club to host a national specialty as well as hosting the Texas Chihuahua Club the same weekend, and another national show in 1986. The Dallas Chihuahua Club has hosted the Chihuahua Club of America National Specialty three times with the latest show in May of 2007. In the spring of 2008 we will hold our first ever back to back shows at the Dallas Sterling Hotel.
